AIC School 2018 – Bari, 29 August – 2 September 2018

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the 2018 edition of the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC) International Crystallography School (AICS2018) entitled “Powder Diffraction: Theory, Software and Applications”, organized by the AIC Commission on Crystallographic Teaching in collaboration with research teams of CNR and University of Bari.
The School will be held in Bari, Italy, at ‘Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e Geoambientali, Campus Universitario’, on 29 August-02 September 2018.

The aim of the AICS2018 school is to give an overview on the characterization of polycrystalline materials through X-ray Powder Diffraction. The topics of the school span from the fundamental principles of powder diffraction to advanced methods of data collection and analysis with examples of applications of scientific and industrial interests. Theory will be strictly followed by practical sessions centred on relevant software so that participants familiarize with some widely used computer programs for data analysis and interpretation of the results. The school is mainly addressed to PhDs and young researchers working in the field of Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Cultural Heritage and Engineering.

We can keep the registration fee relatively low as well as offer a convenient package including accommodation, lunches and social activities. Moreover, a number of bursaries are available to cover the registration fee in full or partially.

The deadline for bursary application is 20 May 2018, while registration will close on 15 June 2018.

More detailed information is available on the School web page http://www.cristallografia.org/aicschool2018.

Please find attached a poster of the School for displaying at your local institution.
