AIC School 2016

Dear Colleagues,

the 2016 edition of the AIC International Crystallography School, entitled “Polymorphism, stability and phase transitions in crystals: theory, experiments, applications” will be held in Rimini, Italy, on 7 to 11 September 2016. The School is organized by the Commission on Crystallographic Teaching of the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC) in partnership with the Italian Society for Mineralogy and Petrology (SIMP), as a satellite event of the European Mineralogical Conference 2016 (Rimini, 11-15 September 2016).
Confirmed lecturers so far are:
Mois I. Aroyo (Bilbao)
Tiziana Boffa Ballaran (Bayreuth)
Michael A. Carpenter (Cambridge)
Angelo Gavezzotti (Milano)
A. Mike Glazer (Oxford)
Lucia Maini (Bologna)
Ian D. Williams (Hong Kong).

AICS2016 will address several aspects of crystallographic analysis of structural phase transitions, including basics of thermodynamics, kinetics and atomistic mechanisms ruling the processes. Perovskites will be the main teaching tool of AICS2016, with examples spanning from mineralogical to hybrid organic-inorganic samples. Polymorphism in molecular compounds will also be discussed, with the aim of giving a unitary view of mechanisms and terminology. Therefore, the School is mainly directed to PhD and young researchers working in the fields of Earth sciences, chemistry and materials science, and is as well of interest for metal-organic chemists and molecular crystallographers.

Registrations are now open at

We are making every effort to keep registration fees as low as possible and we are able to offer a very convenient package including accommodation in a 4* hotel, lunches and all social activities for 420 EUR. Moreover, a number of bursaries are available to cover the registration fee in full or partially.

The deadline for bursary application is 15 May 2016, while registrations will close on 12 June 2016.

We look forward to welcoming you in Rimini.
