Why a Commission on Instrumentation and Computing?
The Commission on Instrumentation and Computing (CIC) has been founded within the AIC to promote and support the use of instrumentation and computing pertinent to crystallography, both by divulgating the existance of available resources and supporting their access.
The increased ease of access of excellent laboratories for crystallographic related investigations (e.g. laboratory diffractometers, Raman and NMR spectrometers, electron microscopes) as well as computer freewares has naturally shifted the efforts of the Commission more towards promoting and supporting the access to large facilities, which on the other hand still represent an important barrier for many scientists.
Therefore, although the CIC remains receptive to all kind of instrument and computing related questions, it will address most of its efforts to educate, encourage and support the use of large facilities for crystallographic related investigations.

What can the CIC members do in practice for the AIC members?
Our common commitment is to put time and experience to the service of all AIC members who would like to explore new possibilities in terms of instrumentation (in particular for the access of large facilities) and computing. Depending on our specific expertise and working environment with regard to the problem/question/need that you have, just contact us. We will be happy to try helping you solving your problem!
