The conference is the second international Workshop on Layered materials organised by the Universities of Piemonte Orientale and Torino and sponsored by the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC) and the Italian Zeolite Association (AIZ). The Workshop is supported by the Commission on Inorganic and Mineral Structures (CIMS) of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) and will focus on different types of layered materials (perosvkite-type, silicates, inorganic actinide compounds, organic-inorganic hybrids, etc…), the chemistry and structure of which may lead to highly technological solids, designed to improve their optical, magnetic and electronic properties. These materials can be used for a wide range of applications, from sensor devices to optical and magnetic imaging. The workshop will focus on spectroscopic, diffraction and computational methods to describe the structure and on physical tools to monitor properties in order to enlighten the structure-property relationships. Two grants covering registration fees, accommodation and meals are reserved for young AIC members.
